Randy came to Canada from his native Jamaica in January of 1971. A few days later he saw his first NHL game the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. the California Golden Seal. He fell in love with the game, and wanted to learn to skate, so he could play hockey. The summer of 1971 Randy enrolled in power skating taught by then NHL referee John Damico, it was hard but he loved it. He played house league that winter. The summer of '72 Randy went back to power skating with John and that next season played SHA for Wexford. The family later moved to the town of Newmarket, north of Toronto, in 1975 where Randy played AAA hockey for Newmarket. At the end of his first year in Midget AAA hockey Randy made the decision to stop hockey and follow another passion which he had for the game of basketball. Randy practiced basketball extensively, to the point where from grade 9 to 13, he was a York Region all-star each year and in his grade 13 year was offered a basketball scholarship to Division 1 Niagara State Purple Eagles. Due to circumstances, Randy had to de-commit his scholarship. Not one to sit and worry about what might have been, Randy poured himself into another sport, football. He became very good at the game. In 1981, Randy went on to play football for the Seneca Braves Football team. From '81 to '83 the team won the Ontario and Canadian Football Championships. Randy also spent time training for track and field. He trained at the University Of Toronto Track Club. The track club was run by Andy Higgins who at the time was one of Canada’s Olympic track coaches and head track coach at the University of Toronto. On staff was jumping coach Zulton who Randy spent a lot of time with, learning how to be a good long and triple jumper. During this time, Randy learned a lot about training and preparation for track from two of the best coaches Canada had at the time. It's this early commitment to sport, playing, and being coached at such a high level that allows Randy to train and coach his clients to the successes that they have achieved year after year.
